GEOGRAPHY
The Sultanate of Oman is the second largest country in the Arabian Peninsula with an area of 309,500sq.kms. The Sultanate shares borders with Saudi Arabia and the UAE on the west and the Republic of Yemen on the south.

POPULATION
The current estimation of the population of Oman is 2.3 million with 73% being of Oman origin and 27% are expatriates. Muscat has a population of 400,000.

DRESS
As with all the Gulf countries, Islamic culture dominates the lifestyle in Oman. Different cultures from other countries are also seen throughout the Sultanate, however, men and women are expected to dress conservatively in public places.

CURRENCY
The Omani Rial is divided into 1,000 Baizas (one Rial is equivalent to 2.58 US Dollars). Currency notes are available in RO 50, 20, 10, 5 and 1 denominations as well as 100 baizas, 200 baizas and 500 baizas. Coins are available in denominations of 50, 25 and 10 Baizas.

The official language in Oman is Arabic, however, English is widely spoken in the business community.
